Identification of Members (or "Introducing...")

Hello fellow blog authors! As each of you recieve and accept your invitations, I'd ask you to read the Welcome post, and feel free to comment, adding any thoughts you have. Then take a few moments to respond to this post, letting us know who you are, where you are, if/how many children you have and ages, and what is your interest in Montessori (i.e. if you're a homeschooling mother, a teacher in a Montessori school, just someone interested in educational theory, etc.). I'll go first:

Hi! I'm Alisha and I'm from New Brunswick, Canada. I have three children: Ella, aged 4 1/2; Henry and Eli, twins aged 3 months. I have been homeschooling my daughter using the Montessori method for a bit over a year now and I'm hoping to do the same with my two sons. I don't have any professional training as a teacher, but I've got a Mum who is a teacher/librarian and she keeps me on track!

Can't wait to "meet" you all!

  1. Hi :) I'm Amber. I am the mama of 2 wonderful boys - Hug who is 5 1/2 and Lovely who is 3. I am not Montessori trained, nor am I a teacher (my training & background is in graphic design) but I am so drawn to Montessori & am endeavoring to provide the best Montessori home environment for my children that I can. I do entertain the thought of undertaking training in the future but for now I love the idea of delving deeper into the philosophy through the original books with everyone in this group.

    Thanks Alisha ;)

  2. Hi, everyone :) My name is Traci. I live in Georgia (USA). I have an amazing son, Jay, who is 4 years old. He has been attending a small Montessori school since January. I work full-time but "after school" with him. I am not a teacher; but, I am confident in my ability to teach him. I am excited about the Montessori Method and how it can help me reach the goals that I have for Jay.
I look forward to learning from other Montessori moms and really understanding the Montessori pedology.
    Thanks

  4. Hello! I'm "My Boys'Teacher"...sorry about the pseudonym but I'm privacy paranoid. I have two boys, "Kal-El" aged 3.5 and "Me Too" who is almost two. I "homeschool" the boys and have been studying Montessori on my own (reading books, blogs, and Yahoo! Groups) for about two years. Despite countless hours of reading, I have never actually delved into Maria Montessori's writing *directly*. This project (thank you Alisha!) should give me the necessary prodding to get me to trudge through. In a past life I was a teacher (mostly at the college level, but at one point also K-8), but obviously not of the Montessori variety.

I have some online Montessori teacher friends that frequently help me out when I'm stuck, but am SOOO looking forward to having a group of peers to work with. I always feel like I'm taking advantage when I ask them some of my inane questions.

  5. Hi everyone! I'm Janis, Homeschooler's best friend since Grade 9. I don't have any children of my own, but am a nanny to 8 1/2 year old twin girls, one of whom is special needs, and a 5 1/2 year old boy (since the girls were five months old, so they're pretty much like my own kids!) The little I know about Montessori is from reading A's blog and seeing it in action when I went to "school" with Ella last year (originally from NB but I've lived in BC the past ten years). I'm very frustrated with the BC school system/ curriculum (so much has changed since I was a kid... and most of it, not for the better it seems!) and am interested to learn more about Montessori, though don't know if I'll have time to read the book to be honest! But I'll try to find it at the library and make the effort!

  6. Welcome Amber, Traci, NBT (Do you mind if we use an acronym? It takes much less time to type!), and Janis!

We do still have a few authors pending their acceptance of the invitation, and "Smith" we hope to hear from you soon!

I'm going to make a final post regarding The Absorbent Mind challenge on my other blog as there were a few people who showed interest but have yet to send me their e-mail information.

Hopefully we'll have a really good time both reading and discussing, and I'm so glad you've all joined in the fun!

  7. Hello MBT :)

I love your blog & your sweet boys & completely understand your privacy issues - it's a tricky one, huh? I use my own name but not my boys & try not to feature our faces clearly in photos.

& hello Janis. I hope you begin to feel as enlightened by Maria Montessori as we are!

I've started reading the first chapter & can't wait to read more & get 'talking' :)

  8. Hello, I'm Peggy. I'm in Indiana, USA, and I have two children- Elizabeth,(or Eliz) 4 1/2 years old, and Alexander, (or Lex) 4 months. I was raised Montessori, altho my parents couldn't afford for all 4 of us to attend a Montessori school, my mom did all that she could with us. I've been doing Montessori at home with my daughter for about a year or so, we've been out of it for a few months, so I'm hoping this will help me get back into the swing of things! Pleased to meet everyone!

  9. Hello, my name is Gigi. I live in Texas. I have two kids, my sweet boy is 5 1/2 and Bella is 3 1/2. My children attend Montessori schools and I am working on my Elementary 6-9 AMS Montessori Certification.
I am a College Professor and teach Spanish at a Montessori School.
I have read many of Maria's books and usually get lost in the language. I have picked up this book at least 3 times and could not get through the first chapter!!
This is an incentive to get through it!

  10. Hello again :) & a hi to Peggy & Gigi. I love this community of bloggers!

This is just a little note to say that Meg from The Secrets of Childhood blog (http://thesecretofchildhood.blogspot.com/) is wanting to join us but let me know that she doesn't seem to be able to get linked up. Her email is: thesecretofchildhood@gmail.com

Do you mind sending her an invite Alisha?
    Cheers :)

  11. Hi Meg here! Yippee! I finally got hooked up to the site! I am a Montessori teacher (0-3, 3-6 and 6-12), but really feel most strongly about providing a true Montessori experience for my child - not only in our home, but also at school, and in the wider community. I am passionate about the importance of the Montessori approach in empowering parents to be real advocates for their children - I work closely with parents in my local Montessori community and support them in assuming this responsibility. I am looking forward to being a part of the next 100 years of the Montessori Movement.

  12. Hello everyone! Sorry I'm late posting. Been visiting with family and am now getting caught up :)

I'm Veronica and a native Texan living in Buffalo, NY. I'm the proud mommy of 2 beautiful, sweet, and trying kids, W5 (3 in late June) and E (1 in early July). I have been familiar with Montessori for over 10 years when one of my first jobs out of college was assisting in a 3-6 Montessori classroom (that was short lived as I moved on to try other things finally receiving an MA in Museum Studies).

However brief my encounter with the Montessori Method, it laid the groundwork for where I am now--aiming to homeschool through at least age 6 using the M philosophy. I am also a Charlotte Mason fan, and am hoping to adapt what I can from both methods to meet the needs of my children.

    Happy to be here!

**oh, and I also want to add that sometimes I think faster than I can type so please excuse the typos and misspellings that may result**

  13. Howdy! I'm Magda (also a transplanted Texan), currently living in Clearwater, Florida. I am a homemaker (well, I try), and my son is seven-and-a-half months old. My husband is a priest in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, and that affects (and effects) quite a bit of my life.

I went to Montessori school from age two up to first grade, and now that I'm a mother, have been reading up on the actual philosophy and practice. I am somewhat intimidated by motherhood, especially realizing how much I am responsible for another human being, not just his physical needs, but who he will become.

  14. By the way....YES an acronym is fine! MBT it is. I was never thrilled with the "name" I've used for myself on the blog, but it's the best I could come up with at the time.

I am thrilled to "see" so many familiar "faces" on here. Just another way to get to know y'all better.
